Named after a Roman gladiator school, Ludus Magnus is the meticulous innovative creation by owners, a dynamic French-Italian couple who packed up life in Europe and moved with their 3 children and 5 adored dogs to live in Franschhoek.
A few years on, they have reimagined the Franschhoek Winelands through a lens of sustainability, where their heritage is expressed not only through their cuisine, but also in their own wines and artisanal olive oils.
Sustainability at the Heart of Ludus Magnus
Ludus Magnus is proud to be 100% off-the-grid. We generate our own electricity with 400 solar panels and a borehole delivers potable water. Black and grey water is treated on site.
Wander around the estate to see beautiful renewable food sources including 14 citrus tree varieties along our Vitamin C running trail.
We also have plum, avocado, litchi, mango, banana, pear and macadamia trees You can’t either miss the olive grove and Shiraz vineyard. All farm irrigation is done via drip.
Spot the active beehives and pop by our beloved fur, feathered and shelled family to see our gorgeous rescue donkeys, tortoises, chickens and horses.
